When Mormons were called Mormonites

In the earliest stratum of polemics against the church founded in Manchester, NY, in April of 1830 by the extended families of Joseph Smith Jr and David Whitmer, the movement was often labeled as the "Mormonites". Amongst the titles that give evidence of this are:

• James Gordon Bennett, Report on the Mormonites, 1831, which was edited and republished in a Marietta, Ohio, newspaper in 1832.
• Josiah Jones, History of the Mormonites, Kirtland, 1831, in: The Evangelist 9 (1 June 1831) pp.132-36, is esp. fascinating since Jones lived in Kirtland during this time.
• Alexander Campbell, Delusions, originally published in Virgina, February 7th 1831, in Campbell's own journal Millenial Harbringer, was republished by Joshua Himes in Boston (1832), calls the movement Mormonites as well.
• John Hayward, The Religious Creed and Statistics of Every Christian Denomination in the United States and British Provinces, 1836, contains a chapter on Mormonites in Note M of the Appendix, pp.130-142. 
• An article in the Catholic newspaper the Tablet from April 17th, 1841, which abridges an article from the Athenaeum.
• John Hayward, The Book of Religions (1842) contains additional information on the Mormonites.
• Rev. John Frere, A short history of the Mormonites, or, Latter-Day Saints, with an account of the real origin of the Book of Mormon, compiled from various sources (1850)
• Rev. Charles Day, The Latter Day Saints or Mormonites: Who and what are they? (1854)

In the first decade of the 21st century, the term "Mormonites" has been used by Jamie A. Dennison in The Mormonites: Their Churches and Schisms (2006) to identify all sects that had splintered off the church founded in Manchester, NY, in the April of 1830. However, that approach has so far not shown any takers beyond Dennison.
